Battle of the Bartenders Charity Event returns to Parks Marina January 27

January 19, 2022 Becky Thoreson

The Battle of the Bartenders returns to Winter Games this year, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

Parks Marina and the Barefoot Bar will once again hold the Battle of the Bartenders Charity Event as part of the 42nd Annual University of Okoboji Winter Games.

Marketing Director Debbie Parks says the event will take place during the pre-games Locals Party on January 27th. “The event really starts at 5 o’clock, we will have the National Anthem sung by a local Okoboji High School Girl, and then the Cheerleaders will kick us off with the Okoboji Cheer. Then at 6 o’clock, everybody is invited, free to the public, to come and try different cocktails mixed by over 20 area bartenders. Then you just tip as much as you can, as generously as you can, for your favorite drink maybe, or maybe you’re vying for that certain charity that that bartender is playing for. To date, it’s been 9 years since we’ve been doing this event, and over $32,000 has been raised, mostly for local charities and families in need.”

She adds that festivities will continue at Parks Marina throughout Winter Games weekend. “We’re excited to welcome, Red Bull on Saturday is teaming up with our Side-by-Side Oval Race for their National Circuit Race. There are more charity events going on Saturday out on the ice. Lots of things for families. We know that Cy is going to be here. So, if you want to meet Cy, he’ll be here at 11 o’clock for a couple of hours making the rounds, and we have a lot of live entertainment inside the big Boathouse building, so we’re looking forward to it.”
