Dickinson Supervisors Approve Revision In COVID Policy In A Split Vote

January 18, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors today (Tues.) voted to revise the county’s COVID policy to reflect the 5-day CDC guidelines for quarantine and isolation for employees. The county up until now was still operating under the 10-day guideline. The measure passed on a three-to-two vote. One of those voting against the revision was Supervisor Tim Fairchild…

“If you come to work and you’ve got any symptoms of COVID, even though you did not take a test, failed a test, put on your mask, a proper mask, wear it properly, until those symptoms subside. I think even though that’s an absolutely crazy suggestion, I think it would be more successful in trying to mitigate COVID than the CDC guidelines.”

Supervisor Steve Clark, who also voted against the revision, agreed with Fairchild, saying people need to do the right thing. Fellow Supervisor Jeff Thee made the motion to go with the 5-day CDC policy…

“We’ll leave it at that. It will be something that they can look up, follow, and know exactly, okay, here’s what they’re suggesting, so.”

Thee and Supervisor Kim Wermersen voted in favor. Supervisor Chairman Bill Leupold broke the tie and voted in favor of the motion, saying it’s important to relieve anxiety among county employees.
