Significant Snowfall Still Likely Friday Into Friday Night

January 13, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The region remains under the threat of what forecasters say could be a significant winter storm Friday and Friday night. A good deal of the region, including the Iowa Great Lakes, has been placed under a winter storm warning from 6:00 am Friday until 6:00 am Saturday for a potential of 5 to 8 inches of snow. Amounts in southwest Minnesota could range up to 10 inches in places.

The wind is also expected to increase during the day Friday and into Friday night, with blowing and drifting snow possible along with decreased visibility in open areas.

Forecasters say the majority of the accumulating snow should end by late Friday night with much colder temperatures returning for the weekend.
