(Sioux City)– A Melvin man has been sentenced on a federal drug charge.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa says 50-year-old Todd Gruis pleaded guilty back in September of this year to possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Gruis was sentenced Tuesday to 31 months’ imprisonment and must also serve a two year term of supervised release following the prison term.
Prosecutors say evidence presented at hearings showed that in early 2021 Gruis and a Minnesota man purchased methamphetamine on the “dark web” during multiple occasioins. The drug was purchased by the Minnesota man who shipped it to Gruis’ home. Upon receiving the packages the two would coordinate to split the meth in half.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Clay and Osceola County Sheriff’s Offices and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
