INHF Closes On East Okoboji Land Purchase

December 16, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation has closed on a 50-acre parcel of land on east side of East Lake Okoboji. The land, just north of Elinor Bedell State Park, will remain a natural area with the assistance of the Dickinson County Conservation Board through a conservation easement.

A press release says it will be available for public use beginning June 11th, 2022, with an open house and celebration being planned for that day.

The purchase of the land by the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation was made possible through contributions that were made to the organization from hundreds of individuals and organizations. The Dickinson County Water Quality Commission has also awarded a $100,000 grant to the East Okoboji Lakes Improvement Corporation to work with INHF on restoring the shoreline at the site.
