(Spirit Lake)– Another reminder of Tuesday’s (tomorrow’s) special election to fill a vacancy in Iowa Senate District one that was created with the resignation of Zach Whiting who has moved out of the state. The current Senate District one is comprised of Clay, Dickinson, Lyon, Osceola and Palo Alto counties.
Jordan Moyer who oversees elections for the Dickinson County Auditor’s Office reminds everyone that there will be only one polling site for all of Dickinson county in this special election: it’s the Dickinson County Community Building at the fairgrounds in Spirit Lake…
“This will only be for this election. After this all of your regular elections will be at your normal polling place. If you ever have any questions you can go ahead and call our office. But like I said right now it’s at the Spirit Lake Community Building and the hours are 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.”
Moyer also says you need to have a form of I.D with you when you arrive…
“You have to have your driver’s license, and regardless if you’re registered at that time or not, you do need to bring your driver’s license. Other forms of I.D. you can bring are an Iowa non-operator I.D., a U.S. passport, a U.S. Military I.D. or veteran’s I.D. And also if your driver’s license or non-operator I.D. does not show your correct address, if you are not registered, you do need to bring some form that shows where your current address is, and we can see a phone bill that is on your phone as well. It can be electronic, just as long as we have something where you currently are with your name on it as well.”
She says trying to predict a turnout is anyone’s guess at this point…
“I’ll be honest with you, Steve, I am not 100 percent sure. We are at almost 450 people absentee voting, so we know this means kind of a heated race with a member of each political party running with this election, we’re just not quite sure what we’re going to see.”
Mark Lemke is running as a Democrat and Dave Rowley won the nomination for the Republican party. Both are from Spirit Lake.
