Iowa Lakes Community College Music Department to present Holiday Concert December 12

December 07, 2021 Becky Thoreson

There’s a Holiday Concert at Iowa Lakes Community College this weekend, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

The Iowa Lakes Community College Music Department will present their Holiday Concert on Sunday afternoon at the Janice K. Lund Performing Arts Center in Estherville.

Instrumental Music Professor Carol Ayres says, a number of groups will perform. “We’re going to have lots of handbells, which is always fun at Christmas. The college handbell Group is playing and the community handbell Group is playing. Then we have instrumental groups. We have a percussion ensemble, a woodwind ensemble, a brass ensemble and then a big instrumental piece, and then a mass bell piece at the end where both groups play together. It really shows off the handbell music. Lots of traditional Christmas music, some of it in a new way. They’re all songs you will have heard of. It’s a great holiday program.”

She notes that the concert is free to the public, with a free will offering accepted. “It’s our Christmas gift to you. The free will offering is helpful with scholarships and also to maintain the handbells. We have 6 octaves of handbells and 7 octaves of hand chimes.”

The concert will start at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon.
