Dickinson County Supervisors Considering Drainage Resolution

December 07, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– A Dickinson County Supervisor wants his colleagues to consider passing a resolution being floated by the Iowa Drainage Association that would spell out various requirements and specifications to be followed by pipelines and other utilities installing infrastructure. Supervisor Tim Fairchild said he feels it’s appropriate given the concern that’s out there…

“The people that have written this have put a lot more time into writing it than I have been able to put into picking it apart piece by piece. And when I do go into it I find things in here I never would have thought to include.”

Board Chairman Bill Leupold expressed concern over passing something with no enforcement teeth in it…

“I mean it’s not a bad guideline to have around, this is what we would like. But if I can’t enforce it, why pass it?”

The supervisors took no action on the matter. They’ll discuss it further at their meeting next week.
