December 03, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Des Moines)– Several projects in northwest Iowa have been awarded funds through the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s Enhance Iowa Board and it’s Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grant program.

The YMCA of the Okoboji’s and it’s “Igniting a Healthy Legacy” campaign will receive $325,000 to overhaul three existing buildings and to construct three new buildings at Camp Foster. The new buildings will include a visitor’s center/office; visitor’s center/office; welcome center/airnasium and a double cabin with a capacity of up to 20 campers. Plans call for the current visitors center to be converted to a health lodge, with the current health lodge being converted to additional cabins, and an expansion of the dining hall. The project has a total cost of a little more than four million dollars.

Construction of a new swimming pool in Hartley will receive $350,000. That project, which includes construction of a new bathhouse, basketball hoops, volleyball nets, ADA lift, sunshades and lap lanes, has a total cost of a little more than $2.36 million.

A project to construct a new athletic complex in Sioux Center was awarded $500,000. That project has a total cost of slightly more than four million dollars.
