Early Voting Underway In Iowa Senate District 1 Special Election

(Spirit Lake)– Early voting is underway in the special election in the Iowa Senate District 1 seat. That word from Jordan Moyer who oversees elections in the Dickinson County Auditor’s Office…
“Monday, the 29th, was the first day that you could start absentee voting in office, and with the holiday it was actually the first and the last day to mail out those absentee ballots for any requests we got into our office.”
For those who plan to vote on the day of the election December 14th, Moyer reminds everyone there will be just one polling site for the entire county…
“The polls are going to be open from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm and that’s going to have one voting location for this, and that’s going to be at the Community Building which is located inside next to the Expo which is just north of Hy-Vee there.”
Moyer goes on to explain the reason for having just one polling location for this election…
“What the Secretary of State offers with the special election is that a voting center can be used and so there’s actually for this election just because there’s one race, there’s only one ballot style which gives us the opportunity to have one machine and one location with just one ballot style.”
Moyer adds they have been seeing quite a bit of interest based on early voting numbers so far…
“We’ve had about 217 people that have either requested by mail or have come into the office. There was that countywide mailing that had gone out so I think that’s, you know, a bigger number that people get interested in and sometimes you don’t hear about those special elections that come into Dickinson county, so it’s good for people to, you know, come into our office and kind of get some information and you can call us as well if you have any questions.”
Residents in Clay, Lyon, Osceola and Palo Alto counties will also be voting in the special election.
Early voting in Dickinson county is being held in the elections room at the Auditor’s Office in the courthouse in Spirit Lake.
