Mild Fall Allowing For Field Work To Continue Even In Late November
Mild Fall Allowing For Field Work To Continue Even In Late November

(Lakefield, Mn.)– Farmers have a lot to be thankful for as we head into the Thanksgiving holiday. Jim Nesseth of Extended Ag Services in Lakefield says not only did yields come in higher than expected, the mild fall has allowed producers to get a lot of field work done, even in late November…
“You know we’ve got most of the crop out. I mean there’s just an occasional bean or corn field that’s left but it’s pretty isolated and it’s probably due to some, you know, break downs or some extremely wet soil conditions. So most of the tillage is done and we’ve got some producers, you know, maybe baling some corn stalks yet that, you know, that are some of our livestock producers. And there’s a little bit of anhydrous and fertilizer being applied and of course a lot of tiling is being done, but we’ve had ample time to get a lot of this crop out and the fields are working up good with this fall tillage, and the greatest thing that’s happened, we just basically recharged all of our subsoil moisture. We’re above historic averages there. I think we’re over six foot at that 10 foot depth level and you know the tiles are running, so we’re really set up, I think, for a really good spring and a year where we really can, you know, next year maybe is we’ll start out with some really good yield potential.”
Nesseth says it’s one less thing producers have to worry about as they deal with rising input costs.
