(Milford)– The main thoroughfare in Milford could soon look a lot different. Mayor Steve Anderson says the city has entered talks with the Iowa Department of Transportation regarding some possible changes to Highway 71 through the city. Anderson says they had a discussion on the phone with D.O.T representatives in the last week or so and that the response they received was favorable…
“It was just kind of a kick off meeting to get an idea of what the city was looking for and what the scope of the project was with the D.O.T. They’ve hired a engineer from Howard R. Greene, the person who’s going to kind of be evaluating this and working through this project, so. We talked about some of the same intersections we’ve talked about in the past: 6th Street with the new middle school being down the road, now we’ve got a lot more kids that are going across the highway at that point. We talked about A-34. There’s been a lot of vehicle issues there with turning radiuses. And then we talked about the fire station intersection and what can we do to help alert traffic to that. We talked about, we’re going to look at the potential conversion of the four lanes to three lanes and look at safety and do we need more signals, do we need less signals. That type of thing.”
Anderson added city crews will also be doing some traffic counts soon at a couple of intersections in the city where data is currently unavailable.
