Dickinson County Supervisors Approve Preliminary And Final Plats Of Crandall’s Beach Second Addition

November 16, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved a Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation to accept the preliminary and final plats of Crandall’s Beach Second Addition on the north shore of Big Spirit Lake. David Lawrence, a property owner in the affected area, spearheaded the effort. He told the supervisors it became an issue when he was wanting to build a garage and discovered the lots had been subdivided by the original developer without having gone through the proper legal procedure of doing so…

“And so I was the one that worked on this process, determined by building a garage found out my lot was a nonconforming lot on the north side. Worked with the property owners. This is something that all Crandall’s Beach landowners are participating in and are excited to get this cleaned up just so we can have a subdivision in compliance. And really all of the existing easements, the sewer, roads, electrical, everything’s staying the same because really it’s an existing subdivision. So there’s nothing new or there’s not really any major changes to what you see with the existing subdivision right now.”

Supervisor Tim Fairchild said he hopes the action doesn’t send the message that by not going through the proper procedures at the beginning, the problem can still be fixed later. In the end, though, all five supervisors wound up voting in favor of the plats.
