Spencer City Council Hears Update On Street Project

November 16, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– The Spencer City Council Monday evening heard an update on the 4th Street Overlay Project. The City Engineer reported some final asphalt work is scheduled to be done today, but he says some other unfinished parts of the project may not get completed now until this coming spring…

“They continue to work on manhole adjustments and water valve adjustments. They’ve got quite a bit of work left, concrete work left to do, involving curb and gutter and sidewalk ramps, and I believe they’re going to have a hard time getting that work done this year. So what I think we’ll see is having some carryover work to the spring. And as far as working days, their contract working days are pretty much up after last week so they’re taking quite a bit of time and we’ll probably be having some discussions about that next spring.”

He added supply issues and a shortage of workers are also likely factors in the project taking longer than expected.

The council was also updated on the West 4th Street and 32nd Avenue West storm sewer project. It was reported there have been some supply issues with that as well, but more work is expected to get underway soon.
