Spencer City Council Hears Update On Dangerous Intersections

November 02, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– An update was given at Monday evening’s Spencer City Council meeting regarding two dangerous intersections in the city. Public Works Director Mark White told the council he and Police Chief Mark Warburton continue to be in contact with the Iowa Department of Transportation regarding the intersections on Highway 71 near McDonalds and Menards, on the southwest side of Spencer…

“There is a recommendation to lower the speed limit in front of Wal-Mart, in that area. It’s a little, I won’t say it’s complicated, but we want to follow up on that. That requires an ordinance change, so you folks will have it in front of the council to do that. We have talked about possibly having that at a committee meeting so we could review those recommendations in a little bit of a more casual setting, so.”

Both intersections have seen multiple accidents in recent years and have been an ongoing concern among city officials.
