(Spencer)– Multiple charges have been filed against a Fairmont, Minnesota man stemming from a pursuit Sunday that started in Spencer and ended west of Milford.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it all started shortly after 1:00 pm when deputies and Spencer police pulled over a Chevrolet Tahoe in the 800 block of South Grand Avenue in Spencer. As officers and deputies approached the vehicle, it took off at a high rate of speed, resulting in a pursuit that went northwest out of Spencer, exceeding speeds of 100 mph. The pursuit went into Dickinson county with the suspect vehicle turning onto 193rd Avenue just south of County Road A-34 west of Milford. The vehicle left the road and was disabled.
Authorities say the driver refused to get out. The High Risk Entry and Arrest Team was activated. The driver, 31-year-old Shawn Gaston of Fairmont, Minnesota, was arrested and charged with eluding, possession of methamphetamine…over five grams with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm by a felon, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, failure to obey a traffic control device, speeding, and driving on the wrong side of a two way highway.
Authorities say the incident is still under investigation and that additional charges are likely.
