Iowa Lakeside Lab to host Haunted Laboratory October 28

October 25, 2021 Becky Thoreson

There’s a Halloween event at Iowa Lakeside Lab on Thursday, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

Iowa Lakeside Laboratory will hold a free family event called The Haunted Laboratory on Thursday evening.

AmeriCorps Member Natalie Schwarz says a number of family-oriented activities are planned. “We have games that are witch-themed like ring toss onto hats and we’re playing pin the tail on the black cat. We’ve got some really cool crafts , painting spider webs and making monster slime. Two of the things that we’re really excited about is, number one, we have an escape room this year. The ghost of one of the founding scientists at Lakeside accidentally got trapped inside of a glass jar, and so you have to help release the ghost. Then, we’re also doing some really cool food crafts. So, for younger kids they can decorate their own rice crispy treats as monsters and then for some of the bigger kids, they get to do a really cool chemical reaction. It’s make edible water bottles. So, we’re really excited to have kids kind of learn how chemical reactions work in a really fun way.”

She notes that the event is free and open to the public. “It is 100 percent free. Our only requirement is that people come in costume and ready to have some fun. We’ll have people helping you out with the parking and showing you where to go. It’s meant to be something for families to do together for kids of different ages. Rain or shine we’re having a party.”

The event will run from 4-7 on Thursday evening at Lakeside Lab.
