Man Escapes Serious Injury In Palo Alto County Crash

October 22, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Emmetsburg)– An Algona man escaped serious injury in a crash earlier this week near Emmetsburg.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says 19-year-old Quelub Heidelberg of Algona was driving a 2015 Ford F550 Super Duty which was towing a cement pumper. Deputies say Heidelberg was westbound when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel. The truck made contact with a bridge guardrail, causing Heidelberg to take evasive action resulting in him losing control of the tow vehicle. It went into the ditch and rolled, coming to rest on its wheels. The concrete pumper also came to rest in the ditch.

Heidelberg was checked over on the scene by paramedics.

Authorities say the truck and concrete pumper sustained a combined $80,000 in damage.

Heidelberg was cited for failure to maintain control and failure to use a safety belt.
