Search Warrant Executed Thursday At Armstrong City Hall As Part Of Ongoing Investigation

October 22, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Armstrong)– There’s a new development in an ongoing investigation involving corruption in city government in Armstrong that allegedly occurred up to and including February 11th, 2021. The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Thursday executed a search warrant at Armstrong City Hall. A press release doesn’t say what, if anything, was seized in the search.

Earlier this year, former Mayor Greg Buum, Police Chief Craig Merrill and former city clerks Connie Thackery, Mary “Kate” Staton and Tracie Lang were charged with various public offenses. Buum, Merrill and Thackery have pleaded not guilty. Those prosecutions remain ongoing. Staton and Lang have both entered guilty pleas in Emmet County District Court.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the State Auditor’s Office are involved in the ongoing investigation.
