Spencer Residents Will Have Additional Opportunity To Comment On Street Vacation Request

(Spencer)– City officials in Spencer say they’re going to give the public an additional opportunity to comment on a request to vacate a portion of a street near Spencer Hospital.
The council has already held the first reading of a proposed ordinance revision that would allow the request to move forward. It followed a public hearing. However Mayor Kevin Robinson announced at this past Monday’s City Council meeting and again Tuesday there will be an additional opportunity for the public to comment prior to the council considering a second reading…
“Normally we wouldn’t do this part procedurally because we already had the public hearing where there’s public comment. One of the councilmen had contacted me and had several residents come to them and say I missed that, I didn’t know it was happening, can we talk publicly about it? And so in full transparency and due diligence we talk about all the time, we want to give people the opportunity if they want to be present and to talk about the project. And so that will be one of the Committee of the Whole item meetings and so we just want to give you access to your elected officials and if you have pro or against or just general questions, we welcome those at that time. Then we’ll move into the second and third readings down the line as the information becomes more available related to the punch list items we requested with utilities and things of that nature.”
The Committee of the Whole meeting Robinson referred to is scheduled for 5:30 pm Wednesday, October 27th in the council chambers at Spencer City Hall.
Hospital officials have requested the city vacate a portion of East 11th Street to accommodate a planned renovation of the facility’s Emergency Department.
