Public Health Official Reminds Of Importance Of Getting A Flu Shot

(Spirit Lake)– Another reminder to get your flu shot if you haven’t already done so. Katy Burke of Dickinson County Public Health says symptoms of the flu and COVID-19 can be very similar and getting a flu shot can help take some of the guess work out of the equation…
“They’re both respiratory illnesses so it can be very confusing to know which is which. Certainly a good thing to think about whether you have been exposed or not but sometimes it’s difficult to know if that has happened if you’ve been in public spaces, so we encourage you to be thoughtful if you think you have some of these symptoms and come in to get tested.”
Burke adds it’s likely the flu season will be worse this year…
“So those are the projections, Steve, and so we want to encourage people to be as proactive as possible to get their flu shot. That’s really a great thing that you can do and we have some clinics available for that and it’s also available in many pharmacies, too.”
Burke says this is a good time to get a flu shot before the season really starts to ramp up.
