COVID-19 Positivity Rate In Dickinson County Remains Relatively High
October 15, 2021Steve Schwaller
(Spirit Lake)– Positivity rates for COVID-19 locally remain relatively high. That word today (Fri.) from Katy Burke of Dickinson County Public Health…
“Today the 14 day average is 13.6 percent and the seven days is a little bit lower, 12.9 percent. Still high. In the last seven days we have seen 47 positive cases in Dickinson county. It’s a little bit down from last week when we were at 57 positive cases, but that’s still a significant number for our rural area.”
Burke says they continue to see some hospitalizations as well locally, mostly among younger, unvaccinated people…
“Those that are unvaccinated, usually it’s a younger population that have to be hospitalized and those that are vaccinated are usually much, much older.”
Burke says it points to the importance of being vaccinated. And when it comes to that, she says they’ve been seeing quite a bit of interest in the booster shots…
“So we’ve seen the third dose for immunocompromised and that was approved already for both Moderna and Pfeizer so we have seen that group come in to get vaccinated, and then Pfeizer was approved for the booster dose and we have had a few come in. That was a smaller population for our community that originally was vaccinated with Pfeizer. This week of course the big news is that the FDA approved the Moderna booster dose yesterday, however it now goes into a second step to the CDC’s group called ACIP and so we are in the process for that, but it is looking positive on the Moderna booster front as well.”
Burke reminds everyone covid test kits remain available at the east and west entrances of Lakes Regional Healthcare at the respective covid door screening locations.
Covid vaccinations remain available at Dickinson County Public Health on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with flu shots available exclusively on Wednesdays from 1:00 until 5:30 pm.
