(Storm Lake)– Several safety and zoning concerns were raised regarding the location of a proposed soybean crushing plant just south of Lake Creek at the Buena Vista County Supervisor meeting this week during a public hearing for the county’s comprehensive plan.
The section of land in Washington Township needs to be changed from agricultural to industrial for the project to proceed. At a previous Board meeting, Supervisor Paul Merten said that an area west of Alta was previously targeted for the plant, but the landowner refused to sell.
Buena Vista county supervisors are expected to act on the comprehensive plan and consider the first reading of the proposed zoning change at their meeting next week.
