Wind Causing Concern With Corn Still In The Fields

October 13, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Lakefield, Mn.)– Today’s high wind is causing concern in the agricultural community.

Jim Nesseth of Extended Ag Services in Lakefield tells KUOO news there’s still quite a bit of standing corn out there. He says some of that has stalk rot and root worm issues. Nesseth says the wind will likely push more of that corn over…

“There’s stalk quality that’s not good and we’ll just probably have more lodging after this wind event and, you know, hopefully most of the poor standing corn we’ve got that harvested, and that’s what most producers have targeted, so that should help to some degree. But yeah, high wind is not what we want.”

Nesseth estimates about half of the corn in the area has been harvested. He estimates 10 to 15 percent of the soybeans are still in the field.
