Traffic Stop Results In Charges Against Two People

October 12, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Rock Rapids)– Drug charges have been filed against two people as the result of a traffic stop this past Friday in Lyon county.

The Sheriff’s Office says a K9 was deployed on the vehicle and alerted to the presence of illegal drugs. The driver, 38-year-old Amber Purcell of Rock Rapids, was charged with operating while intoxicated…drugged. A passenger, 50-year-old Gregory Chenoweth of Rock Rapids, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for fugitive from justice for an outstanding drug possession charge. Both Purcell and Chenoweth were booked into the Lyon county jail.

On Saturday, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on the vehicle. Deputies seized methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. That resulted in additional drug possession charges being filed against both Purcell and Chenoweth.
