Dickinson County Supervisors Sign Off On Communications Tower Agreement

September 29, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– A communications tower near Terril that is currently non-operational may soon have a new purpose. That tower and its related equipment was formerly owned by the state of Iowa and was used as a repeater site for the Iowa State Patrol. That entity recently installed new equipment, making the tower obsolete.

Dickinson County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Ehret told the Board of Supervisors Tuesday the state is offering to give the tower and equipment to the county. He says it would help with portable radio communications in the eastern part of the county…(cut 6394-001…q…law enforcement channel, also.)

The supervisors accepted the state’s offer of the tower and equipment and approved a 50 year lease agreement with the landowner on which the items are located.
