(Spirit Lake)– A number of area law enforcement agencies will be participating in a special traffic enforcement campaign in coming days. The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office is among those that will be involved in the effort led by the Iowa Traffic Fatality Reduction Task Force and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
The special enforcement will take place October 2nd-4th.
Officers and deputies will especially be on the lookout for those driving distracted or impaired.
Those behind the effort say the eventual goal is for zero fatalities in Iowa. However they say the incremental goal for 2021 in under 300, down from 338 in 2020. If achieved, they say that would be the first time traffic fatalities in Iowa were under 300 since 1925.
