A District Court Judge Rules Against Motions To Dismiss Charges Against Former Armstrong Police Chief

May 28, 2021

(Armstrong)– A District Court Judge has denied an effort by the former Police Chief of Armstrong to have some of the charges against him dismissed.

Craig Merrill was charged as part of an investigation into various alleged wrongdoings against him and several other former employees of the city of Armstrong.

The charges against Merrill include assault with a dangerous weapon, ongoing criminal conduct, and non-felonious misconduct in office.

Court documents say the assault with a dangerous weapon charge stems from Merrill’s use of a taser on at least one private citizen. Merrill claimed it happened during a gathering at his residence, and that the citizen had allegedly agreed to being tasered.

The judge also denied Merrill’s argument that the statute of limitations had expired on some of the accusations.
