Memorial Day is a day for remembrance and for respect, for those who have given their lives in the pursuit and defense of our country and our ideals. After a tumultuous year in the face of COVID-19, it’s good to be getting back to traditional Memorial Day events.
Here’s a list of just some of the Memorial Day services in our area.
Jackson: Memorial Day is almost here and Jackson will be seeing some community events. The Memorial Day Parade will start at 9:30 am in front of the Legion, go up on Sherman to Main Street, and then north to Ashley Park for the Memorial Day Program. The program will last about half an hour and there will be a salute and talk about veterans.
Spirit Lake: Spirit Lake will be having their Memorial Day Services in front of the Dickinson County Courthouse at 10:00 am. The high school band will play on the Courthouse lawn. The speaker will be Spirit Lake American Legion Post Commander Denny Perry. If there’s bad weather, the events will be moved to the Sami Center.
Milford: The Milford American Legion will have its service outdoor at Florence park at 11:00 am. There will be the traditional 21-gun salute, Avenue of Flags, and the laying of the memorial wreath. Following will be a presentation by Laurie Button.
Clay County: Spencer will be holding its parade at the Clay County Administration Building, then will depart for Riverside Cemetery at 9:30 am, where Duane Bates will be speaker, weather permitting. If there is rain, all events will be moved to the Spencer High School Fieldhouse.
