(Okoboji)– The Okoboji City Council awarded a bid at a special meeting Monday for the Lakeshore Drive, Speier Park parking lot and Country Club Drive resurfacing projects.
Only one bid was received. It was from Blacktop Services of Humboldt for a little more than $2.6 million dollars, about $70,000 under the engineer’s estimate and within the amount of money the city has borrowed for it.
City Administrator Michael Meyers says that paves the way for the work to start this coming August…
“August 8th is sort of the contractual start date, so as we start working with the contractor here we’ll figure out exactly what that date is, and as a city we plan to really kind of plan to over communicate this project with our residents. We understand that this project is going to touch a majority of our addresses here in Okoboji, so we’ll look forward to lots and lots of communication from the city to our residents.”
Meyers adds the work on Lakeshore Drive is being sequenced with the Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District…
“So the half that’s done in the fall will be from Highway 71 all the way up to Nature Center Road, and then in the spring of 2022 project will be from Nature Center Road all the way up to Pikes Point.”
An engineer on the project told the council one lane at a time will be done with local traffic still being allowed with the assistance of a pilot car.
Plans call for the entire length of the project to be done by Memorial Day weekend of 2022.
