(Milford)– Another area law enforcement agency has announced it will be participating in a program designed to help keep tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products out of the hands of youth. Milford Police Chief Bob Clark says his department will be participating in the I-PLEDGE program which is offered through the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division.
The program puts an emphasis on retailer training. Clerks who successfully complete an online training course and then pass an exam become I-PLEDGE certified. It allows a retail establishment to use an affirmative defense against a civil penalty if the certified clerk makes an illegal sale.
Clark says the Milford Police Department will be conducting compliance checks on local establishments as part of the program.
