(Cedar Rapids)– Alliant Energy’s Branching Out program has awarded more than $200,000 in grants to assist cities and other entities in planting new trees.
Locally, Lutheran Lakeside Camp just south of Spirit Lake will be getting $8,843 to replace trees lost to emerald ash borer. The city of Little Rock was awarded $4,000 to replace trees in a cemetery, along some city streets and in other locations of the town.
In addition to the grants, the cities and entities awarded funding will also receive support from Trees Forever, which will assist them in selecting the best species for their area and create a care and maintenance plan for the new trees.
