Planned Improvements For A Park At Pillsbury Point To Get Boost From Imagine Iowa Great Lakes

March 11, 2021

(Arnolds Park)– Plans by the city of Arnolds Park to clean up and restore a park at Pillsbury Point are getting a financial boost. John Frankin of Imagine Iowa Great Lakes told the city council Wednesday evening they have agreed to reimburse the city $90,000 for the project…AP Council March 10 01

“It’s more about keeping the historical aspects. You know, trimming the brush, cleaning the trees, and then of course, you know, with the CCC boys. I’m assuming those were put there during the depression. They were working there at that point. And then another thing we’d like to have the city consider is your public accesses to that sidewalk and maybe Sunset Beach.”

Mayor Jim Hussong and council members expressed their gratitude to Imagine Iowa Great Lakes and their contribution to the project, which is also a collaboration with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

The Arnolds Park City Council also Wednesday voted to terminate a development agreement with Historic Arnolds Park, Incorporated. Jeff Vierkant of the Arnolds Park Amusement Park told the council terms of the agreement, which had been in place since 1999, have been met…AP Council March 10 02

“The agreement covered a number of things including there was a mortgage as part of that agreement which has long since been satisfied, there were some insurance requirements imposed which were part of that, there were use restrictions on the property, a minimum assessed value, there was a right of first refusal should the property ever become for sale, those types of things. We felt that much of that agreement has been satisfied.”

The council also Wednesday evening approved an amendment to the Pelican Ridge Urban Renewal Plan following a public hearing that drew no comments.
