Additional Information Released Into A Crash Sunday In Spirit Lake

March 09, 2021

(Spirit Lake)– The Iowa State Patrol has released additional details into a crash that took place Sunday near Lewis Drug in Spirit Lake.

Troopers say a deputy with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was responding to a report of an erratic driver and was attempting to pull over the suspect vehicle, which failed to stop. The State Patrol says the sheriff’s deputy then used legal intervention in an effort to stop it. Both the suspect vehicle and the patrol vehicle went off the road and into a ditch, with the suspect vehicle coming to rest against a light pole on the southwest side of Lewis Family Drug.

An investigative report says the driver of the vehicle the deputy was attempting to pull over suffered a medical condition that resulted in him driving erratically.

No injuries were reported to either the deputy or the driver of the other vehicle.

The incident took place around 4:00 pm.
