(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake firefighters got an early Sunday morning wake up call. Chief Pat Daly says they responded around 4:20 am to a house fire at 15540 250th Avenue, or County Road M56, on the East side of East Lake Okoboji…
“When we got on scene we had smoke showing. Nobody had been living in the house so we were pretty sure nobody was in there.”
Daly says the house is pretty much a total loss…
“There’s a hole through the floor. We had to remove a bunch of siding on the back side. We took out some windows to get the smoke out of the place, so it’s pretty well gone.”
He says the cause is uncertain…
“According to the neighbor he seen flames coming from the basement, but we’re still trying to investigate it a little bit.”
Daly says a call for mutual aid went out to the Superior Fire Department…
“We didn’t know quite what we had when we got there, so we wanted to make sure we had plenty of water. Then we had the Police Department and the Sheriff’s Department there blocking the road for us.”
Firefighters were on the scene three and-a-half hours.
No injuries were reported.
