Storm Lake Man taken into Custody on Several Drug related charges

(Storm Lake)-Storm Lake Police say a Storm Lake man was taken into custody for multiple charges on Friday evening. Police identified the suspect as Taxavier Lamar Ford, age 24 of Storm Lake who was wanted on several Buena Vista County warrants stemming from a traffic stop conducted on September 22, 2020. During the stop, an officer alleged an odor of marijuana coming from Ford’s vehicle. Police subsequently impounded Ford’s vehicle at that time and obtained a search warrant, locating approximately 50 grams of marijuana, a loaded 9mm handgun and a rifle inside. Police allege that Ford was previously convicted of a felony level crime in Indiana, barring him from possessing firearms.

Police further allege that during the warrant arrest on February 26, 2021 a SLPD police K9 alerted on Ford’s vehicle which was parked at 1102 North Lake Avenue in Storm Lake. Police impounded Ford’s vehicle and obtained a search warrant, locating a loaded 40 caliber handgun with extended magazine and drug paraphernalia.

Ford was taken into custody on the Buena Vista County warrants charging him with the following; Controlled substance violation, a Class D felony; Failure to affix drug tax stamp, a Class D felony; Possession of a firearm as a felon, a Class D felony; Carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Ford was booked into the Buena Vista County jail on a $5,000 bond.
