(Spencer)– Construction of a new water tower on the south side of Spencer is winding down.
Officials with Spencer Municipal Utilities say cleaning and disinfecting of the interior of the new water tower is underway, along with integrating it into the control system. The new tank is expected to be filled today (Thurs.). Officials say customers may notice some discolored water and low pressure while that’s going on. They say bacteria sampling will be completed once that’s done.
SMU officials say the old tower sustained structural damage in an ice storm during the 2017-’18 winter and that the new tower was funded through an insurance claim.
They say once the new tower is operational and equipment is removed from it, the old one will be taken down.
