(Des Moines)– The Iowa Department of Public Health today (Thurs.) is reporting 1,973 new, confirmed cases of COVID-19 for the previous 24 hours ending at 10:00 am. 97 additional deaths were reported, bringing the state’s death toll to 3,451.
746 Iowans were in the hospital with the virus, down from 776 on Wednesday. Of those, 146 were in intensive care with 87 on ventilators. COVID-19 outbreaks were reported at 147 long term care facilities throughout the state.
Locally, Dickinson county reported 12 new cases over the past day along with one new death related to the virus. The county’s death toll now stands at 13. Clay county reported 17 new cases since Wednesday. That county’s death toll remains at 10. Buena Vista county reported one of the largest increases in new infections in northwest Iowa, with 32 new cases reported since Wednesday.
