(Spirit Lake)– A very distinguished honor has been bestowed upon a longtime lakes area resident and businessman. Kim Wermersen of the Spirit Lake Noon Kiwanis today (Fri.) announced this year’s winner of their Citizen Of The Years…
“This year’s winner we’re presenting to John Hinn. Normally we would present this award at our annual Christmas party but due to the coronavirus our board chose to cancel that event for this year but we wanted to continue to recognize someone who’s had several years of service commitment and John certainly is one of those people. John is often, I guess better known as an anonymous giver who’s made a real impact on a number of people’s lives. John was nominated by Marilyn Strickland. Of course John’s a former owner and realtor of Dowden Hinn Realtors in Spirit Lake. And really, Steve, this is a way for our Kiwanis club to say thank you to a lakes area resident for making a difference and choosing to make service a part of their career.”
Hinn tells KUOO news he’s honored to have been selected for this year’s award…
“I am honored with this award. And I want to thank them tremendously, so very much. I’ve always felt it was necessary to help children and people who were less fortunate. I’ve always helped the Y and Upper Des Moines and any time a child needed something I was always there.”
Hinn says he was always pleased over the years to give back to the community…
“Well the community has been very, very good to us, very good. And I just feel it’s necessary to do.”
Hinn expressed his gratitude to the community for their support over the years…
“Only that I want to thank everybody for all the business that they’ve given us and all the kindness that they’ve given us.”
The Spirit Lake Noon Kiwanis has presented the Citizen Of The Years Award for more than 70 years.
