(Sibley)– Osceola county authorities now say a 17-year-old student has been charged for carrying a weapon onto school grounds. They say the teen has been charged with carrying a firearm on school property. The incident happened Thursday morning at Sibley-Ocheyedan High School.
Lieutenant Seth Hoffman of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says the student and the handgun were both taken into custody. He says it appears the student had no ill intent, but he didn’t say whether or not the teen had revealed why he took the weapon into the school.
Sibley-Ocheyedan Superintendent James Craig says both the High School and Middle School were placed on lock down for about 45 minutes in accordance with protocol. The lock down was lifted after authorities removed the student without incident.
