Construction On A Dickinson County Bridge Project May Be Delayed A Bit

December 02, 2020

(Spirit Lake)– A bridge replacement project southwest of Milford is being pushed back a bit. Dickinson County Engineer Dan Eckert told the Board of Supervisors Tuesday he recently held a pre-construction meeting with the general contractor on the Horseshoe Bend Bridge project…Eckert & Bridge Project

“Initially the contractor had indicated to us that they were going to start right away and try to get a couple of piers built in the river while the water is really low and over this winter time. However Graves won several projects in the last letting so they have now told us that starting late this week there will only be work on clearing and grubbing and maybe some dirt work if the temperatures hold and this extended summer continues, but there will be no work on the bridge itself until probably late summer. They’re going to go do two Sioux county bridges first and then move here. So with that being said we told them we will not allow them to obliterate the road grade of the existing road or the bridge that’s there. We certainly don’t want them to come in and start moving dirt off the road grade or remove the bridge and then be gone until August of next year. Even though it’s a 3 ton posted bridge people are still using it and they can still get across it with a pickup truck and smaller.”

The supervisors November 18th awarded the low bid of $2.5 million dollars for the project to Graves Construction in Spencer.

The project is scheduled for completion in about a year from now.
