Dickinson County 4-H Youth Council launches Light Up the Town Campaign

The Dickinson County Youth Council has launched their ‘Light Up The Town’ fundraiser.

County Youth Coordinator Madeleine Bretey explains.  “Our Dickinson County Youth Council is doing their First Annual Light up the Town fundraiser.  They really wanted to be able to do something for the community this holiday season because we’ve seen that there have been a lot of food drives.  So, they decided to go and approach businesses that are decorating their store fronts for the holidays and ask them if they would like to enter into a decoration competition and possibly win an ad in the Lakes News Shopper.  It’s a $15 entry fee, but we do accept free will donations.  All of those donations we’ll collect and then turn around and purchase food to go towards local food pantries.  I am one of the facilitators for our County Youth Council for 4-H, but this is mostly on the kids.  They’ve really done a great job of planning something for the community to benefit the community and to spread some holiday cheer along the way.”

She notes that businesses can enter in a couple of ways.  “To sign up, it is currently posted on our Dickinson County 4-H and Youth facebook page.  You can email me directly mbretey@iastate.edu, or calling the Dickinson County Extension Office and asking for Madeleine.”

Registration deadline is December 10.
