November 23, 2020

(Meriden)– A Paullina man has died after a vehicle he was driving crashed while being pursued by authorities Friday night in Cherokee county.

The Iowa State Patrol says 26-year-old Matthew Williams of Paullina was driving a 2005 Ford Mustang on Highway 3 near Meriden. A Cherokee county deputy attempted to pull over the vehicle for speeding and reckless driving. Authorities say Williams refused to stop resulting in a pursuit that turned south onto a county road, and proceeded at a high rate of speed. Williams eventually lost control of the vehicle which left the road.

Williams was taken to the Cherokee hospital where he was pronounced dead.
