(Spirit Lake)-RSVP is seeking volunteers for its Pen Pal Program, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details
The Northwest Iowa RSVP volunteer program is inviting anyone 55 or older to join their Pen Pal Program.
Dickinson County RSVP Coordinator DeNeitt Van DenBroeke says the program connects seniors with school children. “It’s one of our favorite RSVP programs. We do the Pen Pal Program with 3rd grade classes and last year we did Spirit Lake and Okoboji, and we’re working to try to add Harris-Lake Park and Graettinger-Terril schools to the program. Last year’s oldest participant in our program was 92 years young. It really gives the Volunteers something to look forward to, especially in the winter months in Iowa. They get to share information about their interests and hobbies and their childhood with the students, and the students get to share their information about themselves, their favorite subjects in school and their pets and their families. I’s a great program.”
She adds that anyone interested should contact her directly. “They should contact me at the RSVP office. My number here is 712-336-6577.”
