SLHS Music Students Selected For All State Honors

October 27, 2020
(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake had a successful day at All State Auditions this fall. On Saturday, October 26th, Directors Luke Miller and Tyler Pedersen found out that Senior Max Bower (Bass II), Senior Anna Fuelberth (Alto I) , and Sophomore Ian Miller (Bass II) were selected for the Iowa All State Chorus; Sophomore Megan Sandison (French Horn) was selected to the Iowa All State Band, and Senior Quiana Hussey (Flute) and Junior Ben Fisher (Percussion) were selected to the Iowa All State Orchestra. Freshman Zac Fisher (Alto Saxophone) was selected as a 1st alternate for the Iowa All State Band.
This is the second All State honor for Fuelberth, Bower, Miller, and Ben Fisher, and the first All State honor for Sandison, Hussey, and Zac Fisher.  Sandison was an alternate for last year’s festival.
The 2020 Festival concert would have celebrated the 74th anniversary of this prestigious event. District Auditions for the 268-piece All-State Band, 211-piece All-State Orchestra, and 601-member All-State Chorus were held virtually October 22-24, 2020, at Le Mars, Hampton, Independence, Atlantic, Indianola, and Washington.
While the 2020 All-State Music Festival Concert has been cancelled due to health safety concerns caused by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, that in no way diminishes the accomplishment of the young musicians designated as members of the 2020 All-State Band, Choir, or Orchestra.
Both Mr. Miller and Mr. Pedersen are very happy for the students who were accepted, as well as all of the students who auditioned.  “The All State Audition process is one of the best ways for students to grow their skills, resilience, and passion for music”, said Miller. “Students who go through this process grow immensely from the start to finish, so we love to see students step forward and use this time to get better.”
