California Man Pleads Guilty In Meth Conspiracy Case That Has Ties To NW Iowa

September 22, 2020

(Sioux City)– A California man has pled guilty in U.S. District Court in a methamphetamine case that has ties to northwest Iowa.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 37-year-old Gabriel Mata-Becerra entered the plea last week to conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of pure meth.

Mata-Becerra admitted during the plea hearing the operation began on or about March, 2019 and continued until on or about May, 2019. Authorities say that on or about April 21st, 2019 Mata-Becerra was pulled over in Wyoming and that law enforcement seized about 10 pounds of ice methamphetamine from inside an unconnected speaker box in the trunk of the vehicle. Mata-Becerra admitted he acquired the meth in California and was traveling to Hawarden, Iowa to deliver it to another person.

Sentencing will be scheduled pending completion of a pre-sentence report.
