(Spencer)– Some big improvements are being planned for a canoe/kayaking ramp at West Leech Park in Spencer. The city council Monday evening authorized the application for grant funds through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ Water Recreation Access program. The city’s Recreation Director, Jared Elbert, outlined some of the plans to the city council…
“With an increase in water recreation and the usage of kayaks in here we’ve seen this year, we found it a good opportunity to try to re-design that, expand the parking area, make that a little bit better. It’s currently just really muddy, to try to expand that to fit some boats, trailers, some vehicles on there, give them a little bit more space, angle that boat ramp downstream a little bit so it’s going to be more self-cleaning, it’s not going to be 100 percent but a little bit better design to try to re-design and try to create an opportunity for the people that utilize that.”
The grant, if awarded, would require a 25 percent local match from the city of Spencer.
