(Des Moines) – The state of Iowa today (Thurs.) is reporting it’s largest single-day increase of COVID-19 cases to date. There were 1,475 new, confirmed COVID-19 cases from 10 a.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. today (Thursday), according to the state’s dashboard, which brings the state’s total number of cases to 59,368.
Officials reported 18 more deaths within this time frame, leaving the state’s death toll at 1,079.
As of Aug. 26, there are 305 total hospitalizations across Iowa due to the virus. Of those hospitalizations, 99 are in the ICU and 44 are on ventilators.
Dickinson was among the counties in the area reporting some of the biggest increases in cases over the 24 hour period, with seven confirmed, bringing the total to 411. Officials say 364 of those cases have recovered. Dickinson County has had five virus-related deaths.
Clay county reported five more cases for a total of 236 with 168 recovered and two deaths so far.
