Milford City Council Again Discusses Clean Up Days And Funding Concerns

August 25, 2020

(Milford)– There was renewed discussion at Monday evening’s Milford City Council meeting regarding clean-up days. City Administrator Leann Reinsbach requested the council re-visit the issue saying she was concerned over a potential $15,000 to $20,000 hit to the city’s budget…Clean Up Days Funding

“Under our garbage fund we’ve only budgeted $25,000. $11,000 of that is for Landfill Commission fees and basically the remainder of it is to cover any of our green waste site fees.”

The council previously had decided to go with a curbside pick up option instead of two others which would have required supervised drop-off sites but at a lower cost. The council decided to stay with the curbside program with needed finances to come from the city’s General Fund. Dates for the clean up days have not yet been set. It’s been several years since city wide clean-up days have been held in Milford.

The council also voted to waive sanitary sewer fees for the pools on the north side of Milford for this year only. They had been requested to waive them going back to 2018. A stipulation was made that a special meter be installed to avoid them from coming back in the future with similar requests.

The council also authorized prep work to begin this fall on the installation of three new street lights on 6th Street going to the new Okoboji Middle School. The poles and lights themselves will be installed next summer.

They also approved the installation of stop signs at the intersection of N Avenue and 19th Street near the fire station. A public hearing on the matter drew no opposition. The change was made at the request of the Fire Department.
