Lakes Area Resort Cited In DNR Consent Order For Siltation From A Construction Site

August 21, 2020

(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has issued an Administrative Consent Order against a lakes area resort for problems associated with siltation from a construction site. The order accuses JR, Land LLC, Bridges Bay Resort, LLC of violating terms of a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit during construction of a condominium complex on the east edge of Arnolds Park.

The DNR says it stems from an investigation into a complaint received September 23rd, 2019 that there were no storm water controls in place at a construction site. The agency conducted a follow-up visit on October 1st, 2019, and found that silt fences had been put in but were inadequately installed, resulting in sediment flowing into East Lake Okoboji.

The order requires payment of an $8,000 administrative penalty. It also mandates compliance with terms of the NPDES permit and states that any disturbed ground must be stabilized.

The company was named in a similar order in 2016 for issues with another project at that time.
